The SEA Games sail training program is designed to teach young kids to be more appreciative of their environment while teaching them to be competitive enough to challenge in the South East Asian Games.
The program is open to all kids between the ages of 8-14. Subsidies are available for less advantaged kids. In fact, less advantaged kids sail for FREE under the program.
We use Optimists, Escapes and Toppers in our classes.
The advanced classes sail and race Hobie 16 beach cats.
Currently, the instructor is Nestor Soriano, a bronze medalist in the finn class at the Korean SEA games.
Nestor has years of teaching behind him, and he worked together with Peter Capotosto, the TLYC Commodore for many years at Manila Yacht Club.
Peter has been Manila Yacht Club Race Committee Chairman, Fleet Captain, Sailing Committee Chairman, and Rear Commodore, at different times in the past.
Together they conceived of this program, which is uses the curiculum of the US Red Cross and US Sailing programs, to give kids a taste of a clean environment, and give them achievable goals to bolster self confidence.
